“Computer science is no more about computers than astronomy is about telescopes.”
Computer vision / Robotics / LLM-powered systems
Hi! I’m Quang, a Computer Science and Engineering student at HKUST who enjoys building things that are equal parts useful, intelligent, and slightly overengineered.
My interests sit at the intersection of AI, machine learning, software engineering, and embedded systems. Recently, that has meant working on underwater robotics, building software for ROVs and autonomous profiling floats, training computer vision models, and writing embedded firmware that hopefully does not decide to discover free will underwater.
I like solving messy, real-world problems with clean, reliable systems. Whether it’s designing ROS2-based control pipelines, building full-stack applications, or developing AI tools that save people from soul-crushing manual work, I care a lot about creating things that are practical, maintainable, and actually ship.
I’m especially interested in computer vision, reinforcement learning, robotics, and LLM-powered systems. Basically, if it sees, thinks, moves, or automates something annoying, I’m probably into it.
I value modular design, solid engineering judgement, and writing code that future me can read without filing a restraining order.
My goal is to build systems that are not just smart, but are actually useful, reliable, efficient, and ideally less dramatic than the process of making them.
BEng in Computer Science and Engineering
A-Levels: Mathematics (A*), Computer Science (A*), Physics (A), Economics (A), Further Maths (b)
Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) @ HKUST
Researching Physical AI for smart building inspection under Prof. Yu-Hsing Wang, integrating quadruped robots with Vision-Language Models (VLMs) and AI agents. Developing autonomous navigation and 3D spatial mapping (Digital Twins) with LiDAR, SLAM, and ROS2 to enable open-vocabulary defect recognition.
USThing
Designed and delivered a grade analytics dashboard for a university mobile app serving 4,000+ active users. Programmed front-end components in React Native and TypeScript, shipping UI features ahead of deadlines. Managed REST API integration testing and debugging, independently documenting and resolving infinite fetch loops to improve performance and reliability.
HKUST Robotics Team
Partnered with a multidisciplinary team to build an underwater robot, winning the Hong Kong Regional Championship and placing Top 8 globally. Developed core control algorithms in C++ and Python over a ROS2 architecture with a custom SocketCAN bridge to an STM32, keeping the robot stable in turbulent water and handling software-to-hardware integration for 8 motors. Built and tuned an AI vision model for underwater object detection, reaching 96% accuracy in low-visibility conditions. Designed a real-time dashboard surfacing live sensor data and robot health during competition rounds.
FPT Software
Engineered an AI financial research agent with LangChain and LangGraph, automating multi-source data extraction and cutting manual research time by 70%. Built a medical imaging pipeline (PyTorch, U-Net, EfficientNet) reaching 92% classification accuracy and 0.9 Dice. Prepared deployment for an audio transcription platform (Whisper, RabbitMQ, Celery), resolving backend API errors to halve processing delays.
GreenAms 6520 Robotics Team
Led programming for autonomous navigation and object detection; improved robot arm performance; produced media to boost engagement and sponsor visibility.
Google Developer Group on Campus @ HKUST
Led a hands-on Git & GitHub workshop for 40+ computer science students; coordinated logistics for the GDGoC HKUST Hackathon with 100 participants; and moderated career panels featuring engineering leaders and startup founders.
HackTheEast
Managed logistics, sponsor relations, and student engagement for the largest AI hackathon in Hong Kong.

Architected and developed a multi-component simulated stock exchange platform with a backend REST API, real-time services (Supabase), and an LLM-integrated simulation engine.
Completed
Designed and deployed a full-stack real-time leaderboard and submission system for a Mock Harvard CS50x Puzzle Day using Supabase for live data pushing.
Completed
Engineered a Raspberry Pi system using Node.js and Python to fetch live S&P 500 stock data from an API and display it on an LED matrix screen.
Completed
Developed a Python tool with Selenium to automate web content capture, compilation into clean PDF documents, and automated download/merge of exam past papers.
Completed
Created a modular, robust control system for an FRC competition robot using Command-Based Programming, integrating autonomous vision (OpenCV) and event-driven teleoperated control.
